Coffee Hacks!
Coffee itself is very low in calories, typically containing less than 5 calories per cup.
However, the calorie count can increase significantly when you add ingredients like sugar, cream, flavored syrups, or whipped cream.
For example:
Sugar: Adding just one teaspoon of sugar can add about 16 calories to your coffee.
Cream: Cream adds richness and texture, but also adds calories. A tablespoon of cream can contribute around 52 calories.
Flavored syrups: These often contain a high amount of sugar, adding anywhere from 20 to 70 extra calories per pump, depending on the syrup's flavor and brand.
Whipped cream: Just a dollop of whipped cream can tack on around 50 calories or more.
So, while coffee itself is low in calories, it's the additions that can quickly bump up the calorie count.
Here are also additional tips I give my clients!
Opt for black coffee: Enjoying coffee without added sugar, cream, or syrups keeps it low in calories and additives.
Choose quality beans: Look for organic, single-origin beans to avoid pesticides and ensure a richer flavor profile.
Limit sweeteners: If you prefer a touch of sweetness, try using natural alternatives like stevia or a splash of unsweetened almond milk.
Watch portion sizes: Stick to moderate consumption, typically around 1-3 cups per day, to avoid excess caffeine intake.
Stay hydrated: Balance your coffee intake with plenty of water throughout the day to prevent dehydration.
Mind your timing: Avoid drinking coffee too late in the day to prevent disrupting your sleep cycle.
Experiment with alternatives: Explore options like herbal teas or matcha for a caffeine boost with different health benefits.
